Microsoft, Cybersecurity, and the Attack of the Body Scanners

First thing I would like to get to if the new 50 page cybersecurity bill that just passed the house, and is now entering the senate. It's surprising to me that most people are not outraged by this bill. It is already widely known and feared throughout the tech community because if it passes the senate, and sent to obama for signing into law, it will be the death of open source as well as freedom on the internet... all for the sake of safety from some unknown looming threat.

Weeks before the bill was passed we saw the media, and companies like Microsoft hyping up this kind of operation. Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, Craig Mundie, is suggesting an internet driver's license and a special WHO for the internet. These comments sent an uproar throughout the net neutrality community, but not a word or whimper from the U.S mainstream media.The idea is that each device you own would have to have a "license plate" to access the internet, that means your phone, computer, gaming console, if it has a way to access the net, it needs a plate, and guess who would get the money for each plate? You guessed it the state, just another way to tax the consumer into oblivion even more.

A week later the website cryptome.org posted a Microsoft internal document basically saying they spy on their users (windows mobile, hotmail, windows live, xbox live, etc). This is nothing new, many companies like skype, facebook (HI FACEBOOK), google, and many others have had leaked documents admitting they record everything you do and have it on file. However in the case of Microsoft's leaked document it talks about giving away information to law enforcement without a warrant... let me repeat that... give valuable information to law enforcement if they want it without a warrant. Within hours of cyptome posting this document Microsoft contacted their host and had the site taken down. Cryptome however is back online and on a new host and still has the document(PDF) for everyone to read.

Just like incarcerating non-violent drug users is big business, so is spying on your customers, and there does not seem to be any hope in site to get our privacy back.

During President Obama"s campaign he vowed to throw out the patriot act once its time was up (which was this month). However this unfortunately is not that case, and now we can add this to the list of already broken promises, and not to mention with the new 50 page cybersecurity bill making its way through the senate its only going to get worse, get used to being watched, everywhere including in your own home.

Speaking of privacy, if you have been paying attention since the whole underwear bomber fiasco. Naked Body Scanners are the next big thing. First we saw them spring up in court houses especially in states like Colorado, not to mention a few airports here in the U.S. However the safety business must go on and of course only gets bigger. Not only do these machines invade our privacy once again, but it turns out they have the "ability" to record your naked body, and print your naked body. Personally i'm surprised Larry Flint is not jumping on this opportunity, because now he can finally get those nude celeb pics he has been offering millions for in the past... for free.

So to wrap it up. Cybersecurity, naked body scanners, all within a couple months of each other. Since this all started 9 years ago it has evolved into big business, and if there is money to be made privacy will become a legend in futures time that was a "right" people used to have. Please feel free to examine all the sources I will be providing, and also research for yourself. This is a critical time for our country, and for the world.

Back from the murder mitten

So last week I took a trip back from to the murder mitten from my wonderful desert. Most of the family stuff went rather well, couple bumps here and there, but thats to be expected. One thing that I found funny was the overwhelming amount of people that had left like I did. I can understand why because well... there's no jobs in Michigan, kind of happens when you rely on one industry that is now owned by the government.

That aside on to comedy stuff. Im supposed to be preforming in the showcase at the comedy spot in November. HOWEVER my day job is trying to fuck me in the ass royally. See for a year now I have always had Sundays and Mondays off. Sundays for stand up, and Mondays for the new game plus podcast. Come next week that "could" change and if it does its going to mess up everything I have worked for this year. IF it does happen it still wont stop me from attaining my dream, it will just derail me for a little bit. So here's to hoping I still keep my same schedule.... Oh and I promise to update this often.

This is crazy the king of pop is dead, and he was only 50 at that. Man the great's have checked out. Last year around the time we lost the very awesome George Carlin (whom I look up to very much) not to mention Farrah Fawcett died today with a ongoing battle with cancer.I really hope both of them find peace in the next life.

Thats not the end though, im hearing rumors that Jeff Goldblume is dead as well. What the hell is going on here? Its like in one day the 1980's both systematically died together.

What do I mean by that you say? Well Michael was the king of pop, he is basically the basis for the a lot of the music we have today. Farrah Fawcett was huge back in the 80's young boys to older men uhh... um... yahoo idolized her for uh.. things. Not to mention she was an inspiration for a lot of todays young actresses. And if Goldblume is gone and is not a fluke, HE WAS IN THE FUCKING FLY DO I NEED ANYMORE EXPLANATION?

So anyways, rest in peace MJ, FF, JG, and perhaps 80's culture, you will be missed.

Getting up early is for suckers (and lumberjacks)

What’s so great about getting up early? I hear so many people say things like “ I feel so accomplished getting up and starting my day… Watching the sun rise and the birds chirp”

Yanno what I say to that? “Bird’s are stupid and annoying and the sun fucking burns you!” There’s nothing amazing about getting up early, nothing… I mean other than that fact that certain institutions are only open for so long, but with some careful planning one can avoid the need to visit them.

Lets start with the bank. Yeah that place that holds your fiat money, the institutions who SWEARS UP AND DOWN that you have overdraft protection, but in reality it’s a dirty fucking lie and the only way you will EVER find that out is when several transactions go through all at once followed by getting stuck with a bill for 11 different 30 dollar attachments! But I digress you still need a place to hold your dough, and one might think that requires you to get up before five o’clock because that’s when the fucker closes.

Now unless you still live in 1980 there’s been a few things implemented that allow you to visit the bank less and less. One of them is the advent of direct deposit, so that eliminates one reason to go to the bank: cashing your weekly scraps from your prominent employer… Now moving on, in the past you needed to go to the bank to actually withdraw money from your account so you could purchase goods and services from our fellow man. On the other hand if you haven’t noticed, they invented these great things called debit cards, along side their bigger brother’s the ATM (which for those of you who played earthbound are very versed in this piece of technology). These devices work simultaneously and magically pull money from your account, no teller needed, no waiting in line (well most of the time depending on the time of day you go, which greatly enforces my notion that getting up early sucks) with these fabulous inventions that pretty much negates the reason to ever visit the bank again!

So we got the bank out of the way what other services can we only access during the day? With 24 hour supermarkets around we are never short on food at night… What about health care? Yep got that covered, besides the emergency room there are these wonderful 24 clinic’s around, and if your town is to small to have one, wait around for a while, I’m sure in this fast paced society one will show up sooner or later.

That leaves us with the post office, but really when you think about it. Is there any reason to go to the post office? You can get stamps at any Wal-Mart, some even in a vending machine. Mail and packages already come to your house and can pick that up any time of the day. I guess it really only affects you if you are some eBay wholesaler and you are constantly sending out packages. Then the post office becomes you best friends, but other than that, absolutely no reason to visit that vile institution.

Now not to be completely biased but what’s so great about the night? Why would to risk sleeping all day just to have fun during the night time? Well I have prepared a brief few reasons why the night time is the right time.

First you can drink at night, in bars, “ BUT VAN!’ you say “You can do that during the day!” Yes… you can but people might think things, start talking, yanno its never socially acceptable to drink before 4 pm. Which is around the time you should be waking up anyway, so that way you get to avoid being called an alcoholic, and nobody wants that awful title.

Breakfast just tastes better after 2 in the morning… period. You can try to debate this but you will be dead wrong, it’s the first thing to come to somebody’s mind after a long night of drinking or other debauchery. Find the nearest shitty diner and get some fucking breakfast. Its awesome, id almost say its an American tradition, and you can never dispute tradition. Trust me, try it, the 40 year old waitress’s will thank you with their smokers ridden raspy voices, support the economy, eat at shitty diners.

Rollercoaster’s… whoa that came out from left field what the hell does rollercoaster’s have to do with anything. You ever try to ride one of those things during the day? You cant fucking do it, the lines are 3 hours long. Not at night though, not to sure how many of you are familiar with cedar point, but the lines start dying down after 6 o’clock. Not to mention its ten times more pleasant, the sun sets, stops microwaving our skin, and making us sweat uncontrollably and nobody likes that. The cool night air breathing down your malignant epidermis. Just fucking awesome, and you might even get to ride said rollercoaster more than once! How can you go wrong with that? It’s a win, win situation, and you get to have a lot of fun.

So what have we learned. Well the sun burns you, bird need to shut the fuck up, banks rob us of our precious time, and nobody likes the post office. So with that said if you are like myself and like to sleep the day away, rock on and don’t change, because the polar opposite of the sun, the moon is ten times cooler and may only fuck with you if your out at sea, hey at least the moon wont give you cancer. I never heard of people spontaneously combusting from moon rays, perhaps gamma rays but I heard that shit gives you super powers anyway so count yourself lucky.

I promise to update you more. I have just been so consumed with work and perfecting act that I just don't find time to update. So that being that heres whats new. Of course Aj and I are still doing weekly new game plus episodes. I have been going to the gym 4 days a week after work (GET STRONGER) improve classes at the comedy spot, and thats pretty much it.

I decided to do a few online classes at mesa community because im addicted to learning. People who know me, know that I get really depressed if I am not learning something new, the curse of the jack of all trades perhaps?

Some good friends recently got let go at work. Its really hollow and lonely there now. Most of the people I work with have the personality of rust shavings. However some of the people on my new team are pretty cool, but will never replace the scott and the Matt.

So what to expect from me in the coming month... Well the last week in august im going back to Michigan for a family reunion and visit my friends (CEDRIC YOU BE READY TO FIGHT ME IN SOME DISSIDIA AND BLAZEBLUE!!) That and I think ill have my first show out here at the student showcase in the middle of august, so will see if that falls through. I also have to get to work with Tim on our video projects before it becomes to late, something I plan on doing around next week so ill post them here when they are complete.

So I gotta talk about this because it bugs me in more ways than one. So a co-worker of mine, the very awesome scott hecker had the privilege to attend one of many ASU house parties last night. So you can imagine what types of people might have shown up.

So first before I go into the initial rant let me describe to you the type of person mister hecker is. He’s a tall white guy who wears plaid, messy hair, and often is seen donning a cannibal corpse hoodie. Yanno typical guy who just likes to hang out and have a good time, nothing wrong with that.

Enter the dumbass…

So whilst getting his drink on he was approached by a very attractive female who within seconds instead of introducing herself she regurgitates this up instead “You the white boy of the party huh?” Now some of you may be thinking, this SCOTT guy must have been attending a party with other ethnicities other than himself, pretty logical id say. Well folks… you would be dead wrong. There was one Tolkien black guy amongst a large heard of white people. Yep this woman was basically calling the sky green, dogs are cats, horses say moo, and cows are skinny. If it were me my first response would be “look in the mirror sweetheart” you gotta ask yourself where this kind of thinking manifests itself.

Funny thing is… it just doesn’t affect white people. One of my best friends who is black gets accused of being a white black guy, and guess who likes to place that label on him. Well I can guarantee its not other black people… you guessed right, white people! It’s insane, I think were the only ones obsessed with labeling and stereotypes more than anybody else on the planet (I know im exaggerating but work with me people). Not to mention most of the time the people came from small towns, or wealthy families and the only place they ever saw a black person was on tv, and because the idiot box says so they assumed that’s how they all act. Wanna know another place where both white and black people co-exist with each other? Well use Britain for an example; do you think they have this problem over there?

On a positive note this is one thing I like about having Obama in office, I really hope he destroys these stupid stereotypes into oblivion in this country, only in America do you see this kind of stuff. I mean where would our sense of security be if we weren't able to put big fat labels on top of peoples heads, it’s a security blanket, makes us feel safe, easier to sleep at night. I would love to see how the system works if people all of a sudden all became SO un-predictable that would couldn’t put a label on them. To see people squirm in their jeans because the unknown is always ever so present. Ah that’s a personal fantasy of mine, and I can dream cant I?

The evil single friend

Its two in the morning and I just got back from the bar, what better to do with my time and to write a blog. So don’t get me wrong being single rocks, however if you have friends who has girlfriends you will relise yourself being the target of them because you are single. See girlfriends hate the single friend, it’s a fact, it’s the natural order of things. In the world of relationships there’s two types of predators to women, one being other women, and the other is the single best friend. The guy who gets in the way, a nuisance to be purged to say the least.

What does the girlfriend do to get rid of the single best friend you say? Well force said significant other to hang out with other couples, we have seen this done on sitcoms for years, but it has a ring of truth to it. A fickle bunch they are, but men on the other hand also worry about the single best friend on the female side. Things like “lets go out and dance… Oh don’t worry we form a circle so no guys can dance with us….”. Bull shit! Those are devil words for the single female best friend, just like the male counterpart except we are a little more boisterous about it “ so where you two boys off to tonight?” “THE STRIP CLUB WHOOOOOOO.”

That aside though I really don’t have a point to what im saying, now myself as the single friend the worst thing I have ever done is played video games with my bros. See video games are a distant third enemy on the list, sometimes it tolerable, but anything that diverts attention from said self is in the long run an enemy. Its like football but you use a controller, and unless the girl digs games, she isn’t invited. Combine video games with the single best friend and you have a war on your hands folks, so the lesson to this is? Nothing! Its and endless cycle, I just like to point out peoples little quirks, its fun to dissect them. Oh well im off to bed.

Been meaning to get an update going, my buddy John just moved in with me so now I have a room mate again and we have been playing the hell out of some killzone 2 online. April so far has been pretty boring for me; my work has been cutting hours do to the lower call volume which gives me time to get catch up on my creative projects and other things. However with the way the economy is lower hours is never a good indication, so here’s to hoping we don’t see a bunch of layoffs.

Speaking of projects the other day I was writing a skit on call centers and how they all sound so robotic now-a-days, it’s like these companies really think that appeals to customers. Anyway I had this funny idea to have a frustrated customer call in for assistance to only get held up by an automative system and request to talk to an agent and have the agent sound exactly the same. That is until I found out MC front alot already did it. It’s not like I couldn’t put my own spin on it and do it anyway but I feel like it will be to identical and would almost be like plagiarizing so I just scraped the idea and moved onto something else.

That however does not stop me from ranting about it. Working in many different customer service fields in my life I have my own way of doing things, its not like a stage to me like it is for some, I just act like myself and people usually respond very well to that. There are those that have what I call the annoying high pitched waitress voice, that seems to be so excited about minute things like ordering buffalo wings with a side of ranch “ OOoohh… Good choice sir! Ill get that going right away for you!” Like seriously to me that is worse than somebody scraping their nails on a chalk board, not only does it hurt you ears, but it also infuriates me. It’s just such a shallow tone to me, even if it is present to try to “please you”. The same goes for call centers, they have their own spin, it’s like the annoying high pitched waitress voice meets Rosie from the Jetsons to create this hybrid tone that is supposed to appease the masses of consumers calling in with a problem.

These companies should just be honest when you get hired in and begin training, don't even call it training call it customer service 101: How to act and sound like a tool.

Today has actually been a pretty productive day for me. I finally got around to making a myspace for the show, to help better advertise it. I also got to speak with an old friend of mine Adam Strax, who is an indie developer and will have his first IP released for pc later this year. Once his game gets closer to gold we plan on having on the show to talk about it, which to me is really awesome.

As I noted in last nights show I’m a real big fan of indie gaming, and all the great new games we get to play thanks to things like digital distribution. Since digital distro cuts the costs in half of producing a product I’m hopeful we will see gaming sort of return to its roots. I mean if you listened to our show about this being the worst console generation, I still stand by that. Most of the games we get today are very pretty (graphically) and that’s about it, no soul, and no substance. As gaming being one of my primary hobbies I’m hoping we can kind of derail that trend and maybe get a more artsy genre per se (I sound like a hippie).

Gaming news aside, I’m ramping up all the material I have thus far for one of my first stand up acts that will more than likely happen this summer. I currently take improve classes at the comedy spot in Scottsdale and they take the 5 best from the class and give us our own day to perform. Once I get a real date on that ill post it up here for anybody who might want to attend.

Well folks time for an update. I finally got my adobe audition to work correctly on my computer (DAMN YOU VISTA, DAMN YOU MICROSOFT BLAAARGH!!) ahem.. anyways. Finally got around to watching Nick and Nora’s infinite playlist, per Asian Jim’s request and was quite pleased with it. I really like movies like that and Juno, gives you a warm feeling inside.

Sappiness aside, now that I got my audio situation fixed expect some of my old audio productions to come back into life (the older stuff was sent to oblivion a long time ago, id actually like to reprise some of the old and do a few new items) So keep checking back for updates, I plan on having my first production done in the coming months, that is if my job doesn’t fire me for reading a book, or having a calendar at my desk (another blog another day lol). Here’s the start to a good week.

Margaritaville, and road rage.

This week’s south park episode hit the nail again like they always do. I love how trey and matt always stay in the middle to the big issues and put a comedic yet philosophical look to a lot of today’s modern problems. I won’t spoil too much about the episode, it’s called margaritaville and you can watch it for free at www.southparkstuidos.com. My favorite part of the episode was their spin on how the treasury handles bailouts… pure genius.

So now that has been said lets talk about people who have stupid bumper stickers. On the way to work today I was strolling down university and got cut off by a black sedan, now this happens almost on a daily basis (not always by a sedan) so I’m quite used to this, however this particular case really pissed me off. The person in question had this decal on her window in very large letters that said “Drama Queen” the fact that she was proud of being a proclaimed drama queen sent my rage off into a new direction. Seriously who’s proud of that, might as well put BITCH, or FUCK YOU in very large letters, that way not only does she cut you off, she insults you at the same time, always kill two birds with one stone I always say.

Speaking of stupid decals (or bumper stickers) I had the privilege of seeing one of the most retarded personal license plates ever… I was driving to get some chipotle about a week ago and pulled into the parking lot when I saw it on a grey mustang with bold black letters BiGPP, I shit you not the plate said BiGPP. I could just imagine the reaction of the person at the DMV when this guy was going to register this. “Yeah… uh I would like to get a personal license plate done…” “Okay sir, one moment while I pull up your file… there we go, what would you like to register today.” “Yeah… So Capital B, lower case i, Capital G, and two capital P’s…” “Uh… so let me clarify, you want you personal plate to say BiGPP?” “That’s right… oh I know what you thinking, its sexual, get your mind out of the gutter sweet heart it stands for Big putt putter” “ Oh well I was going to say! I thought that was a little odd, but that makes more sense, let me get right on that”.
Such a likely scenario, unless he meant big poop plower, or big panda punter, perhaps big pirate police. The world may never know, speaking of that though, if you’re on the road and happen to be one of those drivers that piss off other drivers, would you really want something on your car that’s easy to identify yourself with? Id imagine that wouldn’t be a smart move, I mean it’s a lot easier to remember a personal plate or shitty decal, then a generic plate or a car with nothing on it at all. It’s like your just asking for some crazies to hunt you down and put a banana in your tail pipe.

So for those of you that don't know me... I get around, and not in the promiscuous way (anymore ha) for you people out there with their minds in the gutter. What I mean is I travel a lot and get to meet all different types of people, which is awesome. However in the last 4 years there's one prevailing thing I notice in people. Apathy, its encroaching on us all, takes quite the strong individual to not be subject to it. People have lost hope, they are slowly loosing grips on their dreams, which is sad in retrospect, because I think the last thing we need during these hard times is a mass amount of people loosing hope. However at the same time I don't think we should place all our hopes on other people, or even administrations like the politicians in Washington.

Looking to the past you can see that neither right or left has had the best intentions for the people, so why would that change now? I think if we get up look ourselves in the mirror and realize that we have the power ourselves if we work together to get through these hard times. Sitting back and letting somebody else take care of us is frugal to me, I have always been a staunch libertarian and have always believed in making my own way with the government staying as far away from my affairs as possible. Then again those are just personal choices of mine, and respect what other choose to do with their lives, however I don't believe in rewarding bad behavior and I kind of think that's what were doing in DC, letting the government run rampant while they get these insane new laws over our head (but that's a whole other story I can write about at a later time)

But that's only round one, even though there may be no hope in site whatever happened to that saying never say die? Or if you get knocked down get back up? I think people are actually getting back up but they are so dazed from the impact they lost sight of what to do once your off the ground. I really hope our generation is just known as the apathetic generation, the ones that did nothing. It would be really sad to read in the history books.
